CARDIAC SURGERY
Cardiac surgery procedures are performed meeting the strictest requirements and in an ambience of harmonious cooperation among the doctor’s experienced colleagues, who come from many different specialties, such as: Cardioanesthesiologists, cardiologists, intensive care specialists, radiologists, etc. Applying state-of-the-art surgical techniques, aiming to achieve the best possible results and quicker recovery for patients, the following procedures are performed:
Coronary artery bypass grafting: During this procedure, the coronary vessels that present severe stenosis are bypassed, using vascular grafts. It is the most common procedure in cardiac surgery and is performed with surgical techniques involving the intraoperative functionality of the heart with excellent results (OFF-PUMP, ON-PUMB, Beating Heart). The main purpose of coronary artery bypass grafting is the optimal re-perfusion of the myocardium. This is achieved by selecting on a case-by-case basis the appropriate strategy for the function of the heart, as well as the appropriate grafts, to ensure long-term and smooth cardiac function. Our surgical team’s experience in Coronary artery bypass grafting, especially in patients with impaired cardiac function following myocardial infarction, is a guarantee for the best results.
Valvular heart disease: Heart valve conditions are the most attractive aspect of cardiac surgery, as the most modern techniques of surgical access are applied, with Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS), thus avoiding median sternotomy and minimizing postoperative pain, while ensuring excellent cosmetic results. At the same time, our surgical team places special emphasis on cardiac valve preservation surgery, with valve architecture repair procedures, with excellent results and long-term normal activity, thus avoiding the long-term administration of anticoagulants.
Diseases of the great vessels: Conditions of the aorta cover a wide range of cardiac surgical and are divided into conditions of the aortic root, the ascending aorta, the aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta and a combination thereof. Modern therapeutic approach requires excellent knowledge of the philosophy of aorta conditions as well as experience in surgically managing each condition, paying particular attention to the protection of the brain and all vital organs. Our surgical team applies the most modern and safe techniques for conditions of the aortic root (Bentall, David, Yacoub surgery), the ascending aorta, the aortic arch and the descending thoracic aorta using hybrid grafts.
Adult congenital heart disease: Congenital heart diseases in adults require special experience and know-how for their proper management. Our surgical team, being highly trained for many years in the repair of congenital heart diseases, successfully handles all congenital diseases of the heart, applying the modern techniques of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, where possible.
PHILOSOPHY OF COOPERATION
Patients who have had cardiac surgery are monitored by the attending Cardiologist,
in full and systematic cooperation with the Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
